数学教师亚瑟（托尼·夏尔赫布 Tony Shalhoub 饰）的生活在妻子死于火灾后境变得糟糕。某日，亚瑟突然获悉其叔叔赛瑞斯将一所大宅作为遗产留给了他，于是亚瑟和女儿凯西（莎诺·伊丽莎白 Shannon Elizabeth 饰）、儿子巴比以及保姆四人搬入了豪华的宅邸，正当他们为住所的舒适感叹时，一位不速之客丹尼斯（马修·里沃德 Matthew Lillard 饰）向他们发出警告，原来丹尼斯具有通灵能力，曾经和赛瑞斯一起搭档捉鬼，而赛瑞斯捉鬼的目的，乃是根据古书指引，建造一所用十三鬼魂作为能源，具备预知能力的设备“恶魔之眼”。这所豪宅的真实面目便是赛瑞斯的灵媒设备，亚瑟等人被困在其中，眼看要做为唤醒恶魔的活人献祭…

　　广树（尾美利德 饰）的父亲是寺院的住持，广树非常的热爱摄影，总是端着照相机到处走走拍拍，而母亲达子（藤田弓子 饰）却希望儿子能够将更多的心思放到学业之中去，不要整天不学无术游手好闲。　　广树暗恋着一位名叫百合子（富田靖子 饰）的女孩，她在隔壁的女校念书。没事的时候，广树喜欢拿着望远镜，远远的欣赏百合子弹琴的样子。某日，广树的班上来了一个奇怪的女生，在广树的家中，这个女生和达子产生了口角。诡异的是，当这个女生被打时，达子竟然也会觉得疼痛。与此同时，广树也得到了契机，拉近了自己和百合子之间的距离，一切都看似在往好的方向发展。

　　World War II is around the corner, but the only thing Sally Bauer can think of is the ocean. Her dream is to swim across the English Channel. The child’s father does not want to be involved, so as a woman in the ‘30s in Sweden, Sally has no choice but to do what is expected of her: to be a mother. There is no place left for her dreams and Sally is pulled into bottomless darkness, until her sister Carla saves her. With renewed purpose, together the sisters begin to dismantle the conventions they are constantly facing. In late August 1939, Sally stands on the shore at Dover and takes her first step into the English Channel. She swims across the open and icy sea for 15 hours, waving to the Navy who are readying for war. A couple of days after Sally swims ashore at Calais, Poland is invaded.
